25th Orientation Programme of PGDM & 7th Orientation Program of MBA Started at SMS Varanasi


Inauguration of nine days orientation programme of more than 200 students in two year full time course of PGDM (25th batch) and MBA (seventh batch) was organised at School of Management Sciences (SMS) Varanasi campus today. The President of the programme, famous corporate personality, Shri Ramesh Kumar Agarwal (Chairman Agarwal Packers and Movers) while addressing the newly enrolled students stressed upon the importance of Management education. He said that while science of management needs to be learned and studied, art of management is to be practiced because “10 % is How to make it and 90% is How to take it”. Shri Ramesh Kumar Agarwal emphasized on the importance of being innovative. He urged students not to be a part of masses but go for something new.  According to him, the mantra of success is to be always inquisitive and doing things as an owner not as an obligation or duty.

Following Shri Agarwal, Shri Pramod Kumar Jain, CEO TCI Ltd, the distinguished guest of the inaugural programme, greeted students by asking them to work and learn in a challenging environment to achieve success. He further explained that to be successful one should be fully conversant with the facts of the issues so that the same can be communicated confidently. His advice to the students was to remain busy and energetic.

Later in the day Prof. SK Dubey (Director, Institute of Management Studies, BHU) shared his experience with newly admitted students and said that the institute is achieving new heights and records in the field of Management. He attributed the Industrial Oriented Curriculum of SMS as being at par with the curriculum design of reputed international universities. He reiterated that practical and job oriented courses of SMS has helped the institute to procure new heights in job placement. Prof. Dubey stressed on the need for students to be conversant with the fundamentals of the subjects to be studied. He asked students to learn leadership skills and informed them about the massive opportunities that lie under the garb of Management education.

Earlier, welcoming the Guests on this grand occasion, Prof. P. N. Jha, Director of SMS Varanasi, said that it happens to be a landmark day in the history of SMS as students have come to the inflection point by taking admission in the two prestigious courses of the Institute. He said, SMS is a globally sensitive B-School as it has already initiated Values and ethics education in its courses ever since launch. SMS would leave no stone unturned to provide compatible skills to its students, he commented. He highlighted that the quality placement of SMS Varanasi are indicator of quality teaching and learning atmosphere of the institute.  Therefore Dr. Avinash Chandra Supkar presented the Preamble of SMS while Prof. Sandeep Singh brought forward the importance of management education.Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr. R.K. Singh.

Dr. Pallavi Pathak coordinated the inaugural session. On this occasion, Executive Secretary Dr. M. P. Singh, Registrar Mr. Sanjay Gupta, Coordinator of PGDM Shri Amitabh Pandey, MBA Coordinator Mr. Kartikeya Singh and other faculty members were also present.

7 Days FDP on ‘Outcome Based Education’ started at SMS Varanasi


School of Management Sciences, An Initiative of SMS IQAC Varanasi organized seven-day (July 02-08, 2019) Faculty Development Programme on Outcome Based Education: Teaching, Learning & Evaluation. The first day began with an eminent resource person, Prof. S.K. Soni Former Professor NITTTR Bhopal.

Prof. S.K. Soni focused on various aspects of teaching, he said best way to learn is learning by doing. Gone are the days when only lecture used to be the only means to impart education to students. Today’s lecture finds very minimal place in teaching pedagogy; tutorial, case studies, presentation, projects, etc. make students learn more in less span of time. It is the need of the hour to have a co-relation between teaching and learning, he added.

Earlier Prof. P. N. Jha, Director, SMS, Varanasi presented his welcome address to the guest and all the participants coming from all over India and threw light on the various achievements which have been made by SMS Varanasi in previous years. He also said that it is a matter of great-pleasure that this kind of FDP has been organized to cater to the needs and changes that students and educational pedagogy face in contemporary era. He also emphasised on the importance of new education policy and Education model 4.0.

Programme Convener Mr. Amitabh Pandey Associate Professor SMS Varanasi enlightened the participants with all the details of seven-day FDP.

At the end of inaugural session, vote of thanks was proposed by Programme Coordinator Dr. Pallavi Pathak, Associate Professor, SMS Varanasi. She thanked all faculty member, staff and management for making this programme possible. This session was conducted by Ms. Anamika Patel, Assistant Professor, SMS, Varanasi.

SMS Varanasi organized Eighth Annual Alumni Meet of Delhi Chapter


SMS Varanasi organized its Eighth Annual Alumni meet of Delhi Chapter of SMS Alumni Association on June 15, 2019 at the Shriram Hall of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, New Delhi. The Meet was attended by more than 70 Alumnus and Alumna of different courses and batches of SMS Varanasi.

Meeting got started with the welcome address of Mr. Amitabh Pandey, Convener of SMS Alumni Association. Afterwards Mr. Shambhu Sharan Srivastava, Associate Professor, SMS Varanasi  also addressed the alumni members. The program proceeded with, recent developments at SMS Varanasi and presentation of agenda of the Alumni meet by Mr. Amitabh Pandey. As per agenda, alumni members gave their introduction and shared their on the job experiences as well as learnings. Alumni also gave suggestions that several activities and courses should be inculcated in curriculum, which should ensure that student should not only be well versed in powerpoint, excel, and email writing but also they should be well groomed with emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills and communication skills, which are the dire need of today’s corporate environment. Alumunus of SMS  Varanasi at Delhi chapter also offered to support the students by coming down to the campus and carrying out the workshop for the betterment of students.

Mr. Amitabh Pandey presented the Vote-of-Thanks. Alumni members took active participation in open discussion session. It was also discussed by the members that in what manner they can support the institution to achieve new heights of success. Participants took dinner at the end of the event. Mr. Biplab Sengupta (Alumni Coordinator-Delhi Chapter) and Mr. Birendra Nath Pandey (Alumni Coordinator-Delhi Chapter) have made required arrangements for the event.

Techno-10 (Software Trainee Program) Concluded (Jan-May 2019)

Techno-10 (Software Trainee Program) has been concluded with certificate distribution. This program was a software trainee program conducted at SMS Varanasi Campus in collaboration with Sorreal Systems Pvt. Ltd, New Delhi under the banner of LiveWire Technical Club.


The objective of this program to select only 10 MCA 6th SEM students from any college/ university and equip them with emerging technologies and skills so that they may become capable to face any technical challenges. With this objective, 5 candidates found suitable after rigorous selection rounds for this program. They have gone through the training from Jan- May 2019 and as an outcome of Techno-10 (Software Trainee Program)  theses trainees  launched and worked on (A startup of SMS Varanasi BCA student Mr. Sherai Singh Patel and his friend Vishnu Kant Singh).

This work also fulfills their MCA 6th Sem Industrial Project Internship.
