A “Case Chase Competition” was organized at SMS Varanasi campus on September 29, 2016 by CEISD a Centre of Excellence of School of Management Sciences, Varanasi. Students from various courses participated with great vigor and zeal. 31 case studies related to different dimensions of Marketing, Finance, HR, Strategic Management etc were presented by the participating students. Case of Nokia,Tata Nano, Patanjali, Motorola, RavWan (U.S.A),Emami, Nortel, Pizza Hut, Henikken, Sulabh International, Amazon Mahindra Scorpio, Kellogg, Jet Airways, Maruti Suzuki ,Kerla Tourism, Cadbury, Hindustan Motors, Sugar Mills etc were discussed in the forum.
The contest was judged by an esteemed panel of jury which included Prof. S. K. Singh (IMS-BHU), Prof. N. B. Singh (IMS-BHU) and Prof. K. K. Agrawal (Former Head and Dean-Faculty of Commerce and Management, MGKVP).
Earlier in his inaugural address Prof. P. N. Jha (Director, SMS Varanasi) extended a very warm welcome to the guests and threw light on the importance of case study and teaching pedagogy. During his address Prof S. K. Singh said that Case studies provide a means for highlighting and extracting practical principles and methods for shaping and accelerating progress in solving complex real world problems. Prof. K. K. Agrawal said that case studies inform burgeoning theories such as those associated with complex systems engineering where people are considered part of the system to be conceived, developed, fielded, and operated; or extant systems targeted for improvement upgrades.

Another competitive event by name- Business Model Contest was organized at SMS, Varanasi on 30th September, 2016. Students from various programs participated in the contest with great zeal and vigor. A total of 25 Business Models were presented. During his welcome address Prof. Raj Kumar Singh (Chairperson-CEISD) extended a very welcome to the judges and advocated the importance of entrepreneurship in the today’s complex competitive environment. He also said that such contests are the essence of Management Education in any B-School. Results of the contest will be declared soon and final round will be scheduled in the 3rd week of October.
School of Management Sciences, Varanasi has organized two days ‘Personality Training & Assessment Workshop’ for PGDM I Semester and MBA I Semester students (one day each for PGDM I Semster, MBA I Semester respectively) at SMS Campus. Workshop has been conducted by ABBSCISSA HR Consultancy, New Delhi on 16th & 17th September 2016. Mr. B.M. Das, Chief Operating Officer, ABBSCISSA along with Ms. Jayati Mitra initiated the session. Sessions have further taken up by several professional trainers including Dr. Seema Mehra Parihar, Ms. Pooja Jain and Ms. Deepika Shergil.
In full day long training workshop, various personality assessment and developmental activities took place including Numerical Test, Verbal Reasoning, Clerical Aptitude, Map problems, Group Discussion Activities, Story Writing & Personal Interviews. Organizers provided inputs to students on basis of their performances in various activities individually.
Mr. D. K. Tripathi, GM-Corporate Affairs with the help of Training & placement Cell members facilitated the program. Mr. Rishi Raman Singh, Coordinator PGDM programme, Mr. Kartikeya Singh, Coordinator- MBA Programme also supported the event for smooth functioning.
On 16th September, renowned photographer Mr. Neeraj Sharma visited SMS Varanasi and interacted with undergraduate students of Institute. He discussed about his dream project on river Ganga namely- ‘River of Aspiration”. He has discussed project was about his 1550 miles long journey from the origin of Ganga to confluence. He explained how this river has been accepted as river of life, hope and fulfilment in different geographical areas of India and associated regions. He discussed his vivid experiences and showed photographs in his journey of Ganga. He also discussed about important photography skills. Ms. Pushpanjali Sharma famous yoga instructor of Kashi also interacted with students and discussed about self-development through self-observation.
5th September, 2016 started at School of Management Sciences, Varanasi with the blessings of Director Prof. P. N. Jha. He appreciated the students for their enthusiasm for the Teacher’s Day. In his start-up note he discussed about the Guru-Shishya culture of education in India and its importance in learning. He further expressed his worries towards the low participation of India in Scientific inventions and patents at global level. He took the promise from the faculty members and students to put their even more sincere and rigorous efforts to place India at a higher level in terms of global research and development in different subjects. As we all know that teacher’s day is celebrated in honour of great teacher, scholar and former president of India Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. Prof. Jha also remembered Dr. Radhakrishnan’s teachings for the audience.
Earlier to that lightning the lamp and garlanding the statue of goddess Saraswati took place in presence of Director, Prof. Jha; Registrar, Mr. Sanjay Gupta and senior faculty members. Students performed various cultural events including solo song, solo dance, group songs and group dances in honour of their teachers. Activities were performed by students of PGDM, MBA, MCA, BBA, BCA and B.Com students. Teachers also participated in few events. The unmatched performances by the teachers and the students make the day memorable and everlasting in the memories of all which everyone cherishes. In the end, teachers were felicitated by the students. This event is the hallmark of teacher –student solidarity in the institution.
