School of Management Sciences, Varanasi is now connected to NPTEL (Coordinated by IIT Madras)
The use of Internet and web-based multimedia resources has continuously revolutionized the field of higher education. Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC), are now providing just the right learning to all with an easy access. To cater to the contemporary needs of the new generation, School of Management Sciences (SMS), Varanasi has taken a new initiative to connect their students with National Programme for Technology Enhanced Learning (or NPTEL), Coordinated by IIT Madras.
NPTEL is a joint venture of seven IITs (IIT Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee), Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru (IISc), and funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The project also originated from many deliberations between IITs, IIMs and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU).
NPTEL is the world’s largest curriculum-based science and engineering content repository with hundreds of courses in video formats. IITs are assisting students of engineering, science, social studies streams by providing them video and other study material. The lectures are of various kinds, some with students and some with the instructors speaking directly through the camera. Some professors sit on a chair and talk with slides while others use the blackboard and perform in actual classroom environments. The courses closely mimic the traditional classroom model: a series of long lectures followed by quizzes and a written examination for certification.
