Corporate Lecture Series 2012@ SMS, Varanasi : Mr. R. K. Arora, Head HR, M.J. Logistics Services Ltd. interacted with PGDM Students @ SMS, Varanasi
On October 15, 2012, Mr. R.K Arora Head-HR, M.J. Logistics Services Pvt. visited SMS, Varanasi Campus and Delivered a Guest Lecture to the PGDM III Semester Students.
During the Guest Lecture Mr. Arora gave students an insight into the wide and emerging field of Supply Chain Management he also explained the career prospects for MBA Students in the fields of Logistics Management, Third Party Logistics, International Logistics Management and Supply Chain Management.
Mr Arora also discussed the challenges facing the logistics service companies in India and gave the practical tips to aspiring candidates for preparing themselves for a successful career in Supply Chain Management.
Earlier Dr. Sanjay Saxena, Chairperson, Training and Placement Cell, welcomed the guest, vote of thanks was proposed by Mr Amitabh Pandey.
Mr. D.K. Tripathi, DGM Corporate Relations , Mr. S.K. Tripathi , Sr. Manager Corporate Relations , Dr. Shardul Chaubey, Reader, SMS, Varanasi and Mr Devashish Mukherjee ,Office Executive T&P Cell, were also present on the occasion.
School of Management Sciences has always been a pioneer institution for nurturing and grooming the overall personality of its students. Not only in regular studies but also in extra curricular activities, the students have shown their talent on a habitual basis.
On October 13, 2012 ,School of Management Sciences, Varanasi has organized an Intra Institute Quiz Contest. Quiz competition took place with various Undergraduate batches including BBA & BCA Level students with the main objective to encourage students to inculcate deep knowledge and develop their personality in such a way to become a successful professional. Students were asked various questions based on General Awareness, Corporate Issues, Sports, Politics and Entertainment. Activities had taken place in following manner:
General Quiz for BBA Ist Semester Students:
The Quiz was conducted in two Mega rounds. First round was the Preliminary written round in which 40 students participated. Out of them 6 students in the form of 3 teams qualified for the final round of the Quiz. Activity has been Coordinated by Faculty members Dr. Shardul Chaubey, Reader, along with Dr. Ravi Shekhar Vishal. The final round comprised of 5 different rounds on General Knowledge. Winners of the Activity were:

Business Quiz for BBA IIIrd & Vth Semester Students:
Business Quiz Competition took place with BBA IIIrd & Vth Semester Students. In the preliminary round 60 students participated, out of which 12 students reached in final round. Activity has been Coordinated by Faculty members Mr. S. Roy along with Mr. Avinash Supkar (both reader). Sports, Business and various current related questions were asked during interaction. Winners of the Activity were:

General Quiz for BCA Ist Semester Students:
Another activity took place in form of General Quiz for BCA 1st Semester students. In the preliminary round 70 students participated, out of which selected students reached in final round. Activity has been Coordinated by Faculty members Mr. Ram Gopal Gupta, Reader along with Mr. Saurabh Upadhyay, Lecturer. This activity took place in form of online quiz competition. Winners of the Activity were:

Director of the institute Prof P. N. Jha, Registrar Mr. Sanjay Gupta and other senior faculty members of various departments were present at the test venue to bestow their blessings on the students.
Corporate Lecture Series 2012: Mr. Dinkar Singh, Regional Customs Clearance Manager (North and North East) “DHL Express (India) Pvt. Ltd” @ SMS, Varanasi
On Thursday, October 10, 2012, PGDM III Semester students of SMS, Varanasi got a chance to interact with Mr. Dinkar Singh, Regional Customs Clearance Manager (North and North East) “DHL Express (India) Pvt. Ltd”.
Mr. Singh started off the session with elaborate description of working of Express Logistics companies in general and DHL Express in particular.
Next he discussed about the career prospects for the MBA’s in different functions of Express Logistics companies and also gave the students a deep insight into the skill set required to build a career in express logistics industry.
Apart from answering the questions of students related to the different aspects of express logistics, international business, supply chain management, Mr. Singh also gave practical tips to students as to how they can acquire the required skill set needed for building a successful career in Express Logistics industry.

School of Management Sciences, Varanasi, upholding its tradition of giving cent percent results has once again achieved the distinction of giving 100 percent results in the BBA sixth Semester examinations.
A record 97% BBA VI Semester students of SMS, Varanasi Secured first division marks in the exams conducted by Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith.
SMS has been running its undergraduate courses BBA and BCA for the past 16 years successfully and has been instrumental in providing quality education in the region for more than a decade.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. P.N. Jha, Director SMS expressed his happiness and congratulated the students on their achievement. He further said that this is a proof of the consistent endeavour on the part of the SMS fraternity to impart value based quality education in the institution. Dr. M. P. Singh, Executive Secretary, SMS congratulated the students and expressed his happiness over the result and stressed that the institute will continue to strive for scaling new heights. On this occasion, the Principal Coordinator-UG programme, Mr. Alok Kumar along with Mr. Atish Khadse, Coordinator BBA also expressed their happiness and reiterated their continued endeavour for the same. The students attributed their success to the quality education and facilities provided by the Institute.
SMS Varanasi student Nirmalya Sen grabbed the First Prize @ PRASTUTI 2012:Summer Training Project Presentation
Heartiest congratulations to Mr. Nirmalya Sen PGDM III Semester student of SMS, Varanasi for winning the FIRST PRIZE at SMS PRASTUTI 2012 -the Summer Training Project Presentation competition held on October 06, 2012 at SMS Lucknow Campus.
Among the 40 contestants from 12 B-Schools Mr. Nirmalya Sen (SMS, Varanasi) stood first and won the cash prize of Rs. 10,000 along with the trophy .
Ms Isha Arora of LBSIMT, Bareilly and Mr. Abhishek Kapoor of Shree Sharda Institute of Management and Technology, Lucknow respectively got second and third position and won the cash prizes of Rs. 5000 and Rs. 2500 . Similarly, Ms Neha Singh and Mr. Ayush Tandon of AMITY Business School, Lucknow got consolation prizes of Rs 1500 each.
On Saturday October 6, 2012 Mr. Kumar Sahil , Manager –HR , Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd, along with his colleagues Mr. Chandresh Dixit and Mr. Gabbar Rajput visited SMS, Varanasi campus and interacted with PGDM III semester students.
Mr. Kumar Sahil, gave students insight into the career path of management graduates in different functions of FMCG companies. On this occasion he also conducted a workshop in which he gave a case study to the students.
For this purpose the students were divided into groups and each group had to analyze and present their analysis of the case.
At the end of the presentations Mr. Sahil gave feedback to each group.Mr. Sahil was highly impressed with the out of box thinking and fresh ideas of students. While appreciating the fresh perspectives brought in by the students he also urged them to keep this spirit alive in future.

On the occasion of Voluntary Blood Donation Day [October 1], a blood donation camp was organised at the Khushipur Campus of the School of Management Sciences (SMS) where faculty, students and staff voluntarily donated blood.
The programme was organised under the aegis of SMS – Social Welfare Club “Rainbow”. The endeavor was also supported by two NGO’s “Shastra” and “Transforming group”. The programme witnessed the august presence of Dr. M. Hakeem, (IMA, Varanasi), Dr. Abhishek Chandra (Asst. Prof. IMS, B.H.U.) and Dr. Shekhar (Grief Counsellor, IMA, Varanasi).
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. M. Hakeem highlighted the importance of Blood Donation which can help to save thousands of lives. He inspired the students to come forward and donate blood to safeguard life of others.
Dr. Abhishek Chandra stated that Blood is more required in traumatic cases and in our country due to non-availability of blood, millions of lives are lost.
Dr. Chandra further highlighted the importance of Eye Donation and stated that every year in India; approximately thirty thousand people loose their eyesight. He inspired students to voluntarily donate eyes and blood and serve the humanity.
The other speaker Dr. Shekhar with the help of an example emphasised that humanity can be served in the best way by donating Eye and Blood voluntarily to the needy people. He urged the students to come forward for this Nobel cause.
Earlier the programme began with the lamp lighting and garlanding of the statue of Goddess Saraswati. Welcoming the dignitaries, Prof. P. N. Jha, Director, SMS said that in order to attain professional and personal success in life, students should fulfill diligently their duty towards the society for uplifting the life of thousands. Eye and Blood donations are the most glaring ways to fulfill social obligations.
On this occasion, the Director Prof. P. N. Jha, Executive Secretary Dr. M. P. Singh, Registrar Shri Sanjay Gupta and the entire organising team of Rainbow Club along with all faculty and staff members along with students were present. The Director presented mememto to the officials of I.M.A. and NGO groups, “Shastra and Transforming group”. The inaugural session was coordinated by Ms. Indrani Sengupta (Lecturer, SMS) while the Vote-of-thanks was proposed by Prof. J. P. Mishra (Dean Academics, SMS).
