SMS, Varanasi is going to organize a Mock Aptitude Test for final year BBA & BCA students on December 15, 2011.
This test will be based on the patterns of CAT/MAT.The written aptitude test will be followed by “Group Discussion” and “Guidance & Counselling session” .
The written test and the Group Discussion scores would be considered for the first , second and third prizes and also for two consolation prizes overall.
Leading Business School of the country, School of Management Sciences (SMS), Varanasi organized the final round of the state level competition “SMART” on Saturday, November 19, 2011.
Keeping up with the tradition of its commitment towards its social responsibility activities, SMS initiated this competitive event.
More than 8,000 students from 50 different colleges in the state participated in the competition and showcased their analytical, reasoning and mental ability.
From among the 8000 students, 300 students got selected for the final round of the competition.
The objective of the competition was to identify and honour the talents in the state and to encourage them towards making a successful career.
The Chief Guest for the prize distribution ceremony was Brigadier Akhil Dixit, Commandant, 39, GTC, Cantt, Varanasi.
In his address to the final round participants and the winners, Brigadier Akhil Dixit, (39 GTC, Varanasi) congratulated SMS on this very initiative towards talent hunt across the state.
He urged the students to have a balanced life style and exhorted them to fulfill their own responsibilities first.
He laid stress on the importance of communication skills, technical skills, general awareness, ethics & moral values and civic sense for succeeding in life.
He said life comprises of four phases – Blossoming phase, golden phase, mellowing – down phase and vintage phase in which the first phase decides about the remaining three phases.
Students need to concentrate and focus on the first phase to have a good life altogether.
In the competition of the final round held at the SMS campus, in the graduate section the first and the second slots were taken by Vasantha College for Women while the third prize was won by Shri Agrasen P. G. College.
In the Intermediate section the first and the second prizes were captured by students of Sant Atulanand while the third prize was taken by St. John’s DLW, Varanasi.
The first prize in both the sections of SMART comprised of a cash reward of Rs. 25,000/- each, the second prize Rs. 15,000/- each and the third prize Rs. 10,000/- each.
Besides two consolation prizes each in both the sections were also distributed. In addition to the cash reward, the winners also received a citation and a trophy.
Earlier welcoming the guests, Prof. P. N. Jha said that since its inception in 1995 School of Management Sciences has shown unparalleled commitment towards imparting value based education with a well built academic delivery system.
This has won SMS many accolades at the National as well as International levels. Later Shree Sanjay Gupta, Registrar, SMS declared the “SMART” results.
There was an atmosphere of rejoice among the students. The principals and teacher of different schools and colleges appreciated the efforts of School of Management Sciences for initiating such competitive event.
They opined that this will not only provide a platform to the students in the state for showcasing their talents but will help to search the best talents in the state.
Sharing the views, the students and their parents welcomed this step from SMS wholeheartedly and said that such events lead to building confidence and high morale among students and inspire them to give in their best.
At the end, Dr. M. P. Singh, Executive Secretary, SMS & Prof. P. N. Jha, Director, SMS felicitated the Hon’ble guest with a memento.

Renowned business school in the region School of Management Sciences (SMS), Varanasi completed its 16 years of existence on November 10, 2011. The Institution celebrated its 17th Foundation Day “Adharshila” amidst joyous fervor and competitive spirit with 12 teams participating in the day long competitive events covering four events in academic and cultural arenas. A traditional ‘puja’ was performed at the Campus in the early morning hours before the arrival of the Chief Guest. The Chief Guest in the inaugural session was Honorable Prof. Kripa Shankar, Vice Chancellor, Gautama Buddha Technical University, Lucknow.
Inaugurating the day-long event “Adharshila 2011” at SMS Campus, Prof. Kripa Shankar said that knowledge is the purpose of education to ameliorate the society. He exhorted the students to keep the flag of SMS flying high in the sky. Prof. Kripa Shankar further said that knowledge has three main objectives, to create knowledge, to disseminate knowledge and to utilize knowledge in a way that leads to greater good of the society. He further emphasized that the students should inculcate traditional values and work for the welfare of the society also.
The presidential address was made by Prof. K. P. Singh, Former Vice Chancellor, V.B.S. Purvanchal University (Director, IT, B.H.U.). Prof. Singh said that since its inception in 1995 SMS has showed continuous growth for achieving academic excellence. The achievement of the institutions over the years has been exemplary. Addressing the students of management & technology Prof. Singh further said that SMS is a seat of learning and alma matter for them and they should work to enhance the respect and importance of the institution. Students wherever they go and whatever may be the situation always represent the institution they come from. Prof. Singh citing the example of SMS said that academic commitment is the call of the hour and only with quality infrastructure, faculty members, transparent governance the quality education can be imparted. He congratulated SMS for possessing all these qualities which has made it grow by leaps and bounds in just 16 years time.
Welcoming the Guests to the function, the Director of SMS, Varanasi, Prof. P. N. Jha said that it is a momentous occasion for the entire SMS family to have covered a gracious sojourn of six years in which the institution developed itself as one of the leading centres of Management and Computer education in the country only due to the well wishes of all its stakeholders from time to time owing to which two more of its branches shot up in the state capital Lucknow to impart Engineering education as well. He welcomed the Chief Guest to the Campus and hoped that under his stewardship, not only the Gautam Buddha Technical University but also SMS family would perform excellently in providing value based education. Later, the Executive Secretary of SMS Group of Institutions, Dr. M. P. Singh and Prof. P. N. Jha, Director, SMS felicitated the Chief Guest with a shawl and memento. Mr. Sanjay Gupta, faculty members, members of the administrative staff and students were present on the occasion.
The inaugural function witnessed the musical and mesmerizing cultural performances by the students of SMS which included the western dance, gujarati folk dance, ganesh mahotsava dance and the colour of India. The students cheered the performers with full enthusiasm, zeal and verve. The inaugural session was coordinated by Dr. Meenakshi Singh while the vote of thanks was presented by Prof. J. P. Mishra, Dean, Academics. The four events included the two academic events Business Quiz & Mock Parliament, and two cultural events Solo Song and Solo Dance. The participating teams included Faculty of Commerce, BHU, Deptt. of Psychology PMIR, BHU, Sunbeam College for Women, IMS SHEPA, Vasanta College for Women, Arya Mahila PG College, Jeevan Deep Institute of Management & Technology, Kashi Institute of Technology, International Management Academy, apart from SMS.
Employee of SMS (teaching & Non Teaching) who got felicitated from the management of SMS Society included Mr. Sandeep Singh (Associate Professor-Management), from the teaching community and Mr. Sunil Singh (Assistant Registrar), Mr. Vaikunth Nath Singh (Security Incharge) from the non teaching community while Anil Sharma, Rajesh Gaur (Grade-IV staff) for giving their uninterrupted ‘ten’ years of service to the Institution.
Before the Veledictory function, a scintillating musical program was presented by the famous bollywood film playback singer and 1995 ZEE – Sa Re Ga Ma Pa winner Sanjeevani. She with her melodious voice memerised the young and vibrant crowd of SMS. On this occasion a “Khukhri Haath” Dance was also presented by the 39 GTC. This is a traditional folk dance of Napalese community where a group of people perform on the beats of Maadal a traditional Dhol accompanied by Nepali Song. On the occasion Dr. Sanjay Saxena, Associate Professor played drum set with his team, and enthralled the audience.
In the Valedictory session, while awarding the winners, the Chief Guest Prof V. K. Kumara (Registrar, B.H.U.) said that participating in such programs leads to the personality development and hence students should actively participate and perform. Shree L. B. Rai, Chief Personnel Officer, D.L.W. in his presidential address said that the SMS institution has worked consistently towards development of better human resource and it is worth appreciation. Shri Rai further said that the present time is full of human resource challenges and it can be countered only through holistic and overall development of the personality. He congratulated and appreciated the efforts of SMS for playing an important role in developing the human resource talent in the region.Vote of Thanks has been given by Convener of the Program Mr. Sandeep Singh, Associate Professor, SMS Varanasi.
On the basis of consistent efforts in enrichment of academic input, international exposure to students, excellent summer training and final placement opportunities provided by SMS to its students, Institute has been ranked as A++ category Business School by the ‘Business School Survey’ conducted by the leading corporate journal ‘Business India’.
As per the survey SMS, Varanasi is amongst only three institutes of Uttar Pradesh (leaving NCR) & amongst top 23 B-Schools including NCR region. Moreover SMS has been rated amongst 35 institute in entire Nort India and among leading 115 institutes of India. The survey includes more than 1400 B-schools spread over the country.
The Alumni Meet commenced with the interaction among the alumni students, sharing of their experiences at large and discussing the expectations the corporates have from the present and future students.
Alumni Meet is a regular feature in SMS.
Over the years SMS has signed MOUs with International Universities in order to develop better insights of the students regarding global business.
Leading Business School of the country, School of Management Sciences witnessed the majestic closing of the 3rd PGDM Convocation Ceremony on Saturday, November 5th 2011. The students of the previous batches of various PGDM programs participated with full nerve in this ceremony. Total 1315 students from different courses of PGDM, PGDM (International Business), PGDM (Retail Management), PGDM (Insurance & Risk Management) were awarded the degrees. The toppers from the different academic sessions received Gold medals and Silver medals.
During the convocation address Honorable Dr. Rakesh Dhar Tripathi, Minister of Higher Education, Govt of U.P. linked the success of the students with the sincere efforts of the institution. Dr. Tripathi remembering the great educationist Madan Mohan Malviya said that the blessings given by Justice Giridhar Malviya will be an inspiration for all of the students and will lead to the success in their life. Remembering his students life he said that this convocation ceremony organized by SMS will always be memorable. He also said that our culture & tradition is the backbone of our society and it should be upheld at any cost. This convocation ceremony is a symbol of our traditional learning. He told the students to live and enjoy fully this moment of success. This moment is the symbol of glorious relationship that exists between the education and the students.
In his presidential address, Justice Giridhar Malaviya, President Mahamana Malaviya Mission said that the country has progressed in the last decade but the problems of poverty and curruption is still a dominent problem in the society. Justice Malviya further said that there is an urgent need of inculcating an education system which can help in building character among people and better citizens. He urged the students to use their knowledge to create maximum economic value with social justice for the larger welfare of the people in particular and of the society at large.
Blessing the students, Honorable Padamshree Prof.Geshe. N. Samten, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Tibetan Studies, Varanasi said that an emotional balance in the global world at different levels is important in order to achieve greater heights in life. Emotional regulation will help to make a better educated citizen and will result in building a better society. Prof. Samten further said that the students are very fortunate that they gained knowledge in the city which has been the seat of learning since ancient times and are honored on the land where Lord Buddha gave his first sermon at Sarnath.
Speaking on this pious occasion, former Prof. B. P. Singh, Delhi School of Economics, New Delhi said that SMS is one of the leading institutions imparting management education in India and to be a student of SMS is an honour, Prof. Singh further said that those who had been apart of this Institution in the past are working at higher positions in corporate India successfully and contributing in the economic development of the country.
At the end, Prof. S. K. Singh, Head & Dean, FMS, B.H.U. Varanasi congratulated the students and said that convocation ceremony is an important memory of one’s life to be cherised all through life. Prof. Singh said that according to a recent survey the quality of education is a concern and therefore the course curriculum should be revisited and redesigned according to the requirements of the industry.
Earlier the convocation ceremony began with the assembly of the members of the Governing Council and Academic Council, Distinguished Guests, Faculty Members and Students in the administrative block, formation of Procession and its arrival at the venue of convocation.
After the Saraswati Vandana, Prof. P. N. Jha during his welcome speech informed about the achievements of the School of Management Sciences over the years including the research work, publications, academic aggrements with the international universities world wide and the industrial visits organised for the students.
During the convocation ceremony Mr. Sanjay Gupta, Registrar, SMS read the names of students who topped the different PGDM programs and 18 Gold medals and 18 Silver medals were awarded to them. In the convocation the new issues of the three SMS Journals “Management Insight,” “Computing Trends” and “Purushartha” were also released by the Chief Guest and the other distinguished guests. Dr. M. P. Singh, Executive Secretary, SMS & Mr. Ashok Singh, Chairman of SMS, felicitated the Chief Guest and the other distinguished guests seated on the Dias with a SMS memento of Lord Vishwanath, Shawl and a special memento of Ashok Stambha.
